LIVERPOOL—A groundbreaking study released Tuesday revealed that 82% of conversations now revolve around saying nice things in a deeply sarcastic tone.
“Sarcasm is a universal language,” said researcher Dr. Helen Crowley, adding, “Forget handshakes – the new social norm is a backhanded compliment.”
The study also noted that phrases like “What a fantastic idea!” are usually followed by eye rolls, becoming Britain’s unofficial anthem.
